The Bulgarian Patent Office (BPO) is the authority responsible for the registration of industrial designs in Bulgaria.
Design protection covers the overall appearance of a product or of a part of a product, determined by the features of its shape, lines, pattern, ornamentation, colour combination or a combination of these.
In the proceedings before the BPO, foreign natural and legal persons must be represented by an attorney or an industrial property representative authorised to practise in Bulgaria, for example by our law firm.
Depending on the client’s requirements, we can offer the design application from EUR 250 plus VAT. This includes the novelty search, the drafting and filing of the application and all correspondence up to the entry in the design register.
This is a „from“ price. Depending on the specifics of the case and the search, the fee may be higher. We agree the full fee with you in writing before we start work.
At your request and for a separate fee, we can have the graphic representations of the design prepared. The above fee does not include representation in the event of a refusal of the application.
In addition, the following fees are payable to the BPO:
- EUR 20.45 – application fee;
- EUR 35.79 – examination of the first design;
- EUR 17.90 – examination of each further design;
- EUR 92.03 – registration of the design;
- EUR 25.56 – certificate of registration;
- EUR 15.34 – publication in the Official Bulletin, per image.

The usual duration of the procedure (provided the application is not objected to) is approximately 2 months.
