How much a trade mark costs in Bulgaria: Bulgarian Patent Office fees in euro (2026)

Fees are taken from the tariff of the Bulgarian Patent Office in force since 1 January 2026 and were checked on 16 October 2026. They do not include a representative’s fee. General information, not advice on a specific case.

Since 1 January 2026 the Bulgarian Patent Office (BPO) charges its fees in euro. The tariff is published as a scanned document that cannot be searched by keyword, so we have collected the trade mark fees in one place.

Filing a Bulgarian trade mark

Step Trade marks, service marks and joint marks (EUR) Collective and certification marks (EUR)
Filing and examination, up to three classes 265.87 516.40
Each additional class 15.34 40.90
Claiming priority (each) 10.23 10.23
Registration certificate 25.56 25.56

The basic fee covers up to three classes and stays the same if the application covers only one or two. Each class after the third carries an additional fee. The registration certificate is charged separately and is issued only on express request (Art. 61 of the Bulgarian Law on Trade Marks and Geographical Indications). A registered mark is published in the BPO’s Official Bulletin and entered in the State Register of Trade Marks, both publicly available online (Art. 61 and Art. 7(1) of the same law).

Renewal

A registration is renewed against payment of a fee. The tariff distinguishes two cases:

Renewal Up to three classes (EUR) Each additional class (EUR)
Before the registration expires 153.39 25.56
Within 6 months after expiry 230.08 40.90

For an ordinary (individual) mark in up to three classes, renewal on time costs EUR 153.39 and late renewal EUR 230.08. For collective and certification marks the fees are higher: EUR 306.78 on time and EUR 460.16 after expiry. Each class after the third carries the corresponding additional fee, which also differs depending on whether it is paid before expiry or in the six months afterwards.

Opposition, appeals, invalidation and revocation

Step Fee (EUR)
Filing an opposition 178.95
Appeal against a decision terminating the proceedings 51.13
Appeal against a refusal of registration 81.81
Appeal against a decision of the Opposition Department 81.81
Request for invalidation of a registration 194.29
Request for revocation of a registration 168.73

An opposition against a collective or certification mark costs EUR 357.90. The tariff provides a lower fee of EUR 25.56 for oppositions and invalidation requests based on a court judgment establishing bad-faith filing of the mark.

Invalidation and revocation are different proceedings. Invalidation rests on a defect at the time of registration, while revocation rests on a later loss of the grounds for protection, for example non-use.

Change of the owner’s name and/or address 25.56
Recording a transfer of rights 30.68

How this compares with an EU trade mark

An EU trade mark application at the EUIPO costs EUR 850 for the first class, EUR 50 for the second and EUR 150 for each further class (EUIPO’s official page, read on 16 October 2026). For three classes that is EUR 1,050, and for five classes EUR 1,350.

The comparison covers only the filing fee and the two are not equivalent. A Bulgarian mark protects in Bulgaria only, while an EU trade mark covers all member states. The choice depends on the markets where the client actually trades or will trade.

What these amounts do not include

These are official fees only. They do not include a representative’s fee, a prior search for earlier marks, or the work on any objections from the examiner or on oppositions. The fees for an international registration filed through the BPO are covered in a separate article: “A Bulgarian trade mark as the basis for an international registration”.
